Traveling Around

Stop A “Tuk-Tuk”

Trishaws, Three-wheelers or “tuk-tuk” as they are better known, are the easiest mode of transportation to get about the city, especially during through traffic congested roads. A “tuk-tuk” can be hailed down in every street corner and are much cheaper than taxies.
However, it is best to always pick a “tuk-tuk” with a meter so you are not over-charged. There are several meter taxi companies that are but a call away. If you do have to take a regular “tuk-tuk”, it’s always best to negotiate a fair price before actually getting in.

Take A Bus

The cheapest way to travel short distances within or outside Colombo, is by hopping in to a bus. We must warn you though that local bus journeys can be quite an ordeal with reckless driving, crowded buses and traffic jams. It is best to avoid traffic peak hours like early morning and rush hours in the evening.
The main bus stand in Colombo is located in Pettah, where you are bound to find a bus to any destination. You have the option of picking from A/C, Semi-Luxury or regular buses. If you are on a long distance journey, we recommend the comfortable A/C buses.

Call A Cab

Cabs or taxies are the most reliable and safest mode of transportation to travel around the city while you are in Colombo. There are many cab service providers that will provide you with a car, van or any other type of vehicle with or without A/C. All the cabs are metered and most of the cab service providers are available 24 hours a day.

Rent A Vehicle

Visitors on longer vacations or those who visit on a regular basis on business prefer to rent their own vehicles. If you prefer to self-drive this is a great option or you can request for a driver as well. This is a cheaper and more convenient option for most travelers since options are available depending on your choice.
